Saturday, 8, November, 09 Parties back at it again to day, coming away with no agreements. Gov. Rendell extremely frustrated with union and has taken himself out of the negotiations. Union put another list of 9 new demands on table at a cost of over 7 million dollars. One demand is independent pension audits. Another the potential impact of the health care overhaul.
Friday, 7, November, 09 Parties will meet for talks today.
Thursday, Day 3, Passengers still annoyed that the strike started at 3am without giving them notice. Sad news today, second incident involving regional rail. Rail inspector and a flagman were walking the northbound tracks when the inspector was hit from behind by a southbound train.
4, November, 09 54,000 Public and private school kids back to school today. Parking in city tough or near on impossible to find. Governor Rendell met with unions today. 7 a.m. one 40 years old, train car caught fire Wednesday morning, apparently due to an electrical malfunction, but no injuries, but rattled nerves. Passengers smelt burning rubber and were pushed into the next car. Few minutes later front car was melted. Passengers in crowded second car had to push open windows and climb out. This caused more delays. Homeward passengers had to wait an hour just to get to the stairs for Track three. Cabbies not earning as much money as expected as they are caught up in grid lock for hours on end.
3, November, 09 All out strike started at 3am this morning, 9 million commuters to be affected! Here's what SEPTA has to say. Commuters start out early, roads are already backed up, some worse than normal I-95, the Schuylkill Express and the Vine Street . No school today due to election day.

12:01 am. Saturday, is the deadline, NY Yankees have arrived in town.
Taxi's are gearing up. Philadelphia Parking Authority giving orders which will allow for “shared rides” allowing people to share rides to different directions. Limousines have been given to provide customers in the city. A Great idea by Vince Fenerty, Citizens Bank Park, the Philadelphia International Airport, the Pennsylvania Convention Center, train and bus terminals, hotels and areas designated for special events, will be given priority.

Sunday,10/25/09 Philadelphia, Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority under strike threat by 4,700 transit workers who have voted to give Willie Brown (president of Local 234) authority to strike. Transport Workers Union Local 234 met today frustrated from not having a contract since last March, finally boiled over.

Giving city officials something to mull over is the thought that the 2009 World Series games are scheduled in South Philadelphia, Saturday, 31, October, and Sunday, 1, November and Monday, 2, November, 2009. How are you going to get to the Phillies game or the Eagles-Giants game on Sunday? What about the Flyers game AND HALLOWEEN! 7:30 pm. Saturday, Pearl Jam will be staging the final event at the Spectrum, another 18,000 people to be disrupted.
Expect all buses, trolley's and subways to come to a standstill if no agreement is made by the end of this week. Who will buckle first? Meetings on going all week. Hopefully, this is just all grand standing.

Traveling to Philadelphia International Airport will be fine, that Regional Rail Lines which is not striking. SEPTA advising passengers to buy tickets well in advance as you will be in inundated by extra commuters.
Union wants wages increased by 4 percent yearly, increase to healthcare contributions from 1-4 percent and pension contributions from $75 to $100 for every year of service. See here list of gripes.
Management on the other hands wants zero percent pay raise for the first two years and 2 percent pay raise for the next two years. As well as the freezing of union members pension benefits. (That's the big sticking point)
SEPTA bus, subway, and trolley operators earn from $14.54 to $24.24 an hour, reaching the top rate after four years. Mechanics earn $14.40 to $27.59 an hour. $50,000 to $57,000 per year after four years, not bad.
SEPTA's commuter Regional Rail service, not striking, (different contract) expect lines will be packed. Watch your wallet. Phillies home game generates an extra 8,000 passengers. Broad Street subway line into the South Philadelphia sports complex will be out of action.
Commuters, start making plans for a ride, now. Get your bike dusted off, find your raincoat, umbrella and sneakers. Leave early, expect more cars on the road. Parking spaces will be scarce. Local businesses be prepared to loose income. Hopefully, this is just all grand standing. Listen up all parties involved this is bad judgement interfering with sports fans and trick or treaters, will not gain you sympathy. Last thing parents need on Halloween is more cars on the road.

Last walk out was in 2005 lasted seven days effecting buses, subways and trolleys.

Willie Brown, president of the Transport Workers Union Local 234 SEPTA's largest union, represents trolley operators, subway, bus drivers.and mechanics. Brown is up for re-election September 2010.
SEPTA serves 3.9 million riders in the counties of Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia. $1.13 billion operating budget, 41 percent of that comes from fares. Has lost 37,000 people a day since July, of this year due to recession.
